First, a quick thanks. This is a great product. And I love the support that is provided by Stephen (and many users) in this forum.
Now for my question...but first the setup. In the youth league that I track, coaches make fielding position changes in practically every half inning at practically every position. If there are 12 players on the team, then all 12 have a turn in the batting order, but of course only 9 play in the field at a given time. Since all 12 players are in the batting order for the whole game, these position changes are not pure "substitutions" in the true sense because no player is leaving the game, even if they are sitting the bench defensively for a half inning or two. These position changes are almost always made at the start of a half inning. I record them simply by inserting the same player name and number in the next available substitution row and selecting the new position that that player is now playing and of course marking the correct inning that the position change occurred in. If that player is taking the bench defensively, then I simply mark his position as "Bench." I'm always careful to make sure that the Substitution Details show a batter count and pitch count of zero, which indicates that the position change occurs at the start of the half inning. Furthermore, because these changes are so numerous, I usually just make a note of them on a piece of paper until after the game and then insert them into K-ForCE when I get home.
I've noted that the program sometimes behaves inconsistently with respect to the "Substituted For" field. In some cases, it automatically fills this in, and sometimes it doesn't. I can't seem to figure out why it does this sometimes and not others. I also can't seem to fill this field out manually. When I try to manually enter the "Substituted For" field, it doesn't "stick" (i.e., when I re-open the Substitution Details dialog box, whatever I previously typed in that field is gone and it is now blank). I've also noticed that in the Game Summary, it sometimes reports these position changes as, "Player A moves to First Base," and it sometimes reports it as, "Player A subs at First Base." Just wondering if there is any difference between these two ways of reporting the postion change in the game summary. I would prefer for it to be reported the first way (i.e., "moves to" rather than "subs at") in most cases.
This is not a huge issue, but I'm just wondering if anyone has an explanation for any of the above (assuming you've actually read all the way through my very long message). ;D
